Four ways, whichever suits you: scan the barcode, which identifies the product through the open Open Food Facts database; take a photo of the date, which the app reads on its own; dictate the code or the date out loud; or type everything by hand.
A use-by date applies to perishable food and must not be exceeded — it is a food safety matter. A best-before date is about quality: past that date the food may lose flavour or texture but is usually still edible. MyChowy tracks both and warns you ahead of time.
